Habtom, born and raised in Ethiopia, grew up learning woodworking and electrical skills from his father and playing club volleyball on various teams. Heather was born in Kenya and raised in Kenya, Sudan, and Ethiopia as a child of PC(USA) missionaries. She grew up assisting her parents in their mission work with a desire to serve once she completed college. Habtom and Heather met while serving through a volleyball outreach that Habtom helped start. They were married in 2010 and their first child, Faith Mihiret Habtom, was born February 7, 2012!
Habtom graduated from Ethio-National Medical College Ethiopia with a nursing diploma and Heather received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wichita State in Kansas. She has experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to semi nomadic people and teaching volleyball and basketball to high school students. She went through a three month program with the International House of Prayer Bible training and worked at a hospital in Addis Abba, Ethiopia her first term with The Antioch Partners. Since their marriage, Habtom and Heather have been serving through TAP together in partnership with Beza Church in Addis.
Currently, Habtom is partnering with Beza International Ministries, heading up the new sports outreach. He shares the Good News of Jesus Christ to underprivileged youth through volleyball training. The Kebedes hope to incorporate other sports into the program and one day run a sports ministry of their own. Along with their passion for sports, Heather and Habtom team up to reach out to HIV positive people through the Beza Entoto Outreach. Heather is in charge of the health department at Beza Entoto Outreach, which oversees health, spiritual, and ethical classes, as well as, assisting a volunteer doctor. The Kebedes make house visits to build relationships and provide healthcare to people who might not otherwise receive it. Another goal of the ministry is to empower the people through job training to integrate them back into society while sharing the love of Christ. Habtom and Heather work together as a team to support each others’ ministries for God’s glory.
