Steve and Lisa met and married while serving as missionaries in Western Africa. They both share a passion for cross-cultural ministry and served throughout Africa for a combined 12 years. Steve and Lisa have two adopted children from Ethiopia, Elsa, 7 and Zodi, 10.

Steve has 10 years of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher and Lisa has spent 17 years practicing dental hygiene. Steve graduated from Fuller Seminary with a Master’s degree in Intercultural Studies with an emphasis on International Development.

The Schwind family is serving with Mercy Ships in Western Africa aboard the Africa Mercy. Mercy Ships is a medical organization that utilizes hospital ships to serve the physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the forgotten poor throughout the world. The Africa Mercy is staffed by doctors, nurses, dentists, engineers, teachers and agriculturalists who offer services free of charge. Steve currently works as the ship’s Staff Development Manager, designing and implementing training programs for Mercy Ships’ international staff. The training equips and empowers staff with the knowledge and resources to effectively make disciples as they live out God’s Great Commission. Lisa serves the oral health needs of the onboard crew which enables them to stay healthy and focused on their specific jobs. The Schwind family, together with the crew of the Africa Mercy, are using their God-given gifts to form a unified, functioning body of Christ to bring love, hope, and healing throughout West Africa.
