Enrique and Ellie Goolkasian Lugo

Enrique and Ellie serve in the agricultural region of Baja California, Mexico. They pastor a church of indigenous farmworkers and host a mission base. Enrique recently opened a men’s restoration center, which offers Bible-based treatment for drug and alcohol addictions and training in life-skills. Ellie, an R.N. with a passion for wellness, teaches people how to avoid obesity, diabetes, and other chronic diseases through a healthy lifestyle. She is a writer whose stories give insight into missionary life and God’s presence in Baja. Her first book, Tales of A Five-Star Missionary, received an award from the San Diego Christian Writers Guild.

Ellie and Enrique met in 2007 at Foundation For His Ministry, a large orphanage and outreach ministry in Baja started by Charla Pereau. (ffhm.org) Ellie worked in and later supervised their medical clinic while Enrique attended their Bible Institute. They married in 2008 and later moved to Jaramillo where Enrique was ordained as a pastor.

He grew up in Tijuana and though he came from a good family, he started using drugs as a teenager. After struggling with addiction for years, he broke free, the fruit of a Christ-based rehabilitation center. God has given him a powerful testimony and a passion to set others free. He recently completed his Master’s Degree in Theology and is an incredibly gifted worship leader (quoting his wife.)

Ellie was born in Massachusetts and came to Christ after moving to San Diego as a young adult. Her nursing career included ICU and hospice experience where she saw much suffering and disease that might have been prevented through healthy choices. She went on some short-term mission trips with her home church, Solana Beach Presbyterian, before beginning monthly trips to the orphanage with a pediatrician. During one of these short visits, she heard God call her to Mexico. Ellie obeyed, planning to serve “one year” at the orphanage.

“If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans!”

Ten years later, this couple looks forward to whatever God wills for their lives!
