Evelyn Smith

Personnel Assistant

Evelyn is an “almost native Houstonian” coming to Houston as soon as she could via North Carolina at six months of age. Evelyn grew up in Houston and after college became involved with a singles Sunday school class called the Bereans at First Presbyterian Church where she likes to say her faith became her own and she learned about having a personal relationship with Jesus. Evelyn became passionate about missions when she went on her first mission trip to Merida, Mexico in 1987. Little did she know that the couple that her mission team was partnering with in Merida, Don and Martha Wehmeyer, would later become TAP Partners and they would have the opportunity to reconnect. Since that first mission trip to Merida, Evelyn has had the opportunity to visit several other countries serving as both team member and team leader in Belize, Poland, Hungary, and Uganda. She is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas and has served as an Elder on Session, Missions Lay Lead Team member and Chair of Local Missions, Usher, Kindergarten Sunday School Teacher, and active in various Bible studies.

Professionally Evelyn has worked in Human Resources for over 20 years in both for-profit and non-profit organizations including the United Way, Southern Union Pipeline Company and the Star of Hope. In 2013 she began exploring opportunities to use her gifts with a mission oriented ministry. She became connected to TAP through her friendship with Member Care Team Coordinators, John and Anne Wheeler-Waddell and is excited to use her gifts in her role assisting in the Partner application process with TAP.  Evelyn graduated with her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M (Gig ‘Em Aggies!) and received her Masters’ degree in Human Resources from Houston Baptist University.  Hobbies include birding, scrapbooking, watching Aggie football, spending time with people and sharing the love of Jesus.

Evelyn loves the passage in Revelation where John shares “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”  Revelation 7:9. How exciting to be living at a time such as this and to be a part of God’s calling! We are blessed to be a blessing.
