David Rice

Member Care Director

David met his wife Susan during their university studies, were married in 1986, and joined staff with Cru in 1987 with a vision of seeing university students come to Christ. While serving at the University of Massachusetts and Smith College, they sensed a call to reach students behind the Iron Curtain and moved to Romania in 1991, where their 3 daughters were born. In 2004 they relocated to Hungary and began working on a regional basis. Susan focused on developing a leadership culture and platform for women while David developed the Catalytic Ministry which mobilized Christian students and churches to launch movements in unreached campuses. From 2007 to 2016 David led Cru’s global Catalytic movement expansion, leading trainings in 38 countries. In 2020 they joined The Antioch Partners, relocated to the United Kingdom and worked alongside an Iranian refugee church. Returning to the U.S. in 2023,  they stepped into the role of directors of member care.

David is an explorer at heart and loves seeing how God is expanding His kingdom beyond the next horizon. A deep and growing vision of who God is and what He has promised to do, along with asking each day what it means to be one with God has been foundational in his ministry and vision.  David has also learned the painful impact of how our shadow self and woundedness can be intertwined in a driven need for significance, acceptance, and successful ministry. In his own journey he has found grounding and  a deep well of belovedness from the Father, his family, and community. He loves being alongside others as they develop sustainable rhythms of work, recreation, spiritual life, and rest that flows out of a thriving journey with God and joyful service in the world.  To guide others in cultivating a growing apprehension of God through engagement in nature, he is trained as a Backcountry Guide and Wilderness First Responder.

At this point David enjoys time with Susan and his daughters and exploring the spiritual practice of pilgrimage, hiking and all things outdoors.
